Fly into Diáz Ordaz Intl. Airport of Puerto Vallarta. Punta de Mita is less than forty minutes north of Puerto Vallarta by bus or car. Follow Highway 200 North from the airport toward Tepic, you will cross into the state of Nayarit. The road passes the towns of Mezcales and Bucerias before reaching the exit heading west to Punta de Mita. The exit toward Punta de Mita is well marked, so you won’t have any trouble finding it. Follow the road all the way to the end until you come to a round-a-bout and make a left down to El Anclote beach and make a left at the beach and go all the way to the end and on the right there is the Punta de Mita Marina Cooperative and our boats are located there. Make sure to ask for Elme or the Y-Knot boats.
Car rental is available at the airport from all major companies and the local company we recommend is Gecko car rentals in Bucerias. Taxis from the airport start at $45. Taxis in Punta de Mita and Puerto Vallarta are not metered, so agree on the price before you get in. Busses are also available if you cross the main street from the airport. You must catch a bus that says “Punta de Mita”. To get there from Puerto Vallarta, you can take any gray bus that says Punta de Mita, which usually departs every 30 minutes from downtown Centro for various destinations.
By launching from Mita, you’ll save two hours of travel time just getting to this ideal fishing area. You’ll spend more of your time doing what you signed up for, and less time “commuting”. There’s a good chance you’ll really enjoy the much more laid back atmosphere of Punta de Mita when you’ve come back in for the day. We can also recommend local restaurants that will cook your catch!
